I am constrained to write and respond to the above-titled article by Chief Femi Fani-Kayode published in the Vanguard Newspapers of Sunday, November 8, 2015. One good thing about truth is that it always surfaces no matter who tries to hide it.In any intellectual discourse where one tries to argue the pros of a point,…

  • Character And Leadership: The Buhari Example

All through history, the most essential ingredient for leadership has always been character. Although other ingredients such as empathy, toughness, knowledge and intelligence are frequently mentioned, these traits are all too often really subordinate aspects of character. Encarta English Dictionary defines character as a set of behavioural qualities that make a person distinctively attractive. Such…

As President Mohammad Buhari took off yesterday for the United States on the special invitation of President Barack Obama, expectations are high both in Nigeria and the Unit-ed States on the outcome of the visit. • The Nigerian Union in South Africa on Friday described as false reports in the social media purportedly quoting President Muhammadu Buhari as saying that he was too old to govern.

The President of the Union, Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, said in a press release issued in Pretoria, South Africa, that Buhari never made such a statement at the town hall meeting with Nigerians in that country on June 15.

The press release was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt.

Anyene said Buhari, rather, enlightened the gathering about his administration’s plans and policies to move the country forward.

‘’ After the president left, the conclusion by most Nigerians present was that he is an honest man who is determined to fix Nigeria.

‘’ It even showed in the way everybody wanted to hug and shake his hands,’’ he said.

Anyene said it was disappointing that some people were using the social media to score cheap political point.

‘’ The president never said that he is too old to govern,’’ he stressed in the statement.

Anyene said Buhari was the only visiting Nigerian president he had ever witnessed that had gone out of his way to hug his compatriots after making his remarks.

‘’ Though it is necessary for the opposition to keep the ruling party on its toes, it is equally important that the criticisms should be issue-based so that government will have a breathing space to fix our country,’’ he said.

Anyene, who said the Nigerian community in South Africa was happy to meet the president, expressed confidence in his ability to tackle the country’s challenges. (NAN)

It is a standard universal norm that no leader leads without advisers, and time has ascertained that a leader who acts solely on his own judgment is sure to fail. Consultations and taking of advice are therefore composite foundational elements of leadership. The institutional office of the Special Adviser, with its functions, is hence vital…

Right To First Refusal Is Not American

Before, during and after the adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole candidate for the 2015 presidential elections, the PDP insistently claimed that the action was based on standard examples from America where incumbents are given the right to first refusal. The chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, former national…

Adamawa: Why Regime Change Became Necessary

When in 2007 some key political elites in Adamawa State came together to make Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd), former Deputy Chief of Defense Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Military Governor of Niger State, governor of the state, it was presumably done with the best of intentions. Although the manner of his ‘nomination’ as the PDP’s…

On Friday 9th May, 2014 in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Kumas Bayang Aka’ahs, Supreme Court of Nigeria  dismissed my appeal on the PDP Gubernatorial Primary Election in Adamawa State for the 2012 general election. By this judgment, the apex court affirmed that I was not an ‘Aspirant’ for the governorship and therefore had…
