Fatimah Ganiyu and Adeyemi Kasali have emerged winners of the female and male categories of the sixth edition of the Beginners’ Tennis Vacation Clinic held at the tennis court of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo, recently.
The clinic, organised for children aged between ages 5 to12 by the South-western Zone of the Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, got support from the Kayrom Lee Fitness and Gym Centre.
Addressing the participants during the closing ceremony, the zonal coordinator of the ministry, Dr Steve Olarinoye, said he initiated the training programme in 2010 to discover talents among school pupils.
“The essence of the clinic is to discover new talents and groom them and we have achieved a lot in the last six years. Majority of the children discovered from this clinic are now playing for states in the south-west, including Oyo State,” he said.
Also speaking with the newsmen, the CEO of Kayrom Lee, Mrs. Romoke Ayinde, called for more programmes aimed at catching and grooming youngsters in other sports.
“This clinic is also another way of taking the children social vices. In the next 10 years, we will have some of them discovered here competing at international level,” she said.
