There was confusion at the weekend in Bida , Niger State over a J5 bus allegedly carrying ballot papers but later discovered to be carrying envelopes with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) inscription on them.
LEADERSHIP gathered that immediately the police apprehended the J5 Peugeot vehicle, the rumour started that a vehicle carrying some ballot papers to rig election in the state was apprehended.
It was gathered that based on the rumour the youths trouped to the police station in Bida demanding that the vehicle be burnt down even as the police insisted that the content of what the motor was carrying was yet to be ascertained.
The youth it was learnt insisted that the vehicle be burnt down and were pressing too hard leading to the police firing teargas to disperse the increasing number of youth who were getting more agitated.
It was further gathered that when the situation was getting out of hand the elders of the area intervened leading to the off loading of the materials in the J5 bus and it was discovered that they were not ballot papers as alleged but envelopes meant for the official use of INEC.
