The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has expended over 1 million US dollars in 3 research projects at the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero.
The acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Bello Shehu Malami stated this during the official commissioning of state of the art Biotechnology Laboratory and Screen House build by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the university at Aliero yesterday.
Malami said that Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has immensely assisted the university in its research projects as well as capacity building of the staff to enhance research and development in learning .
‘’ Our staff wrote a proposal , i am happy to say that those proposals saw the light of the day . This university is now having 3 projects sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to enhance learning’’.
In his presentation at the event , Dr. Ibrahim Umar Mohammed , the principal investigator /Zone team leader WAVE Nigeria North gave a brief about the project.
According to him the project was geared towards building capacity for control of cassava virtues in 3 projects namely, control of casava virtues in northern Nigeria , control of Yambedna virus and the West Africa Virus Epidemiology ( wave ) for root and tuber crops.
