Taraba State governor, Arc. Darius Ishaku, has said that his administration has been up to date with payment of local government staff salaries in the state.
Ishaku, who disclosed this yesterday in Jalingo through his permanent secretary, bureau for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Bello Yero during a maiden session of “face the press” said out of 33, 661 staff of local government that were screened by the United Bank Africa (UBA) in the last screening exercise, 30, 44 staff have been cleared and their salaries have been paid.
He explained that the bureau for local government and chieftaincy affairs has also set up a committee to resolve the problem of those whose salaries have issues.
He informed that the biometric exercise carried out across the sixteen local government areas of the state by the United Bank for Africa (UBA) has fished out genuine workers of local government in the state.
“The biometric exercise was able to assist us to discover so many irregularities that has been taking place in the local government areas” he said.
He noted that the biometric exercise was able to expose some directors of local government who in the past are taking salaries of ten to twenty persons at the end of every month.
He stressed that those whose names were omitted during the screening exercise by the bank will soon have their salaries paid.
According to him, there is no any genuine staff of Taraba local government that have not been paid his or her salaries.
