It was tears of joy when 330 widows from the eleven electoral wards of Akwanga local government area in Nasarawa State, at the weekend smiled home with cash gifts of N30,000 each.
The gesture was courtesy of a non-governmental organisation, Majalissan Maccido Andaha Foundation, based in Andaha in Akwanga.
Before the distribution of the cash gift to the widows, they were trained by the NGO, in collaboration with another NGO, Grassroots Excellent Foundation.
The 330 widows were trained in the areas of kampala making, soap, beads, detergents, room freshener, vaseline and others, to boost their economic fortunes.
Speaking at the occasion, the Nasarawa State commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Dr Abdulkareem Abubakar Kana, gave kudos to the NGO, for bringing succour to the widows.
Kana, who observed that the activities of the NGO was in tandem with the policies of the APC’s administration in the state, aimed at alleviating the suffering of the masses, urged other NGOs in the state to emulate Majalissan Maccido Andaha.
Earlier in his welcome address, chairman of the NGO, Sani Lucas Umar, disclosed that his organisation is poised to alleviate the suffering of the masses in the area.
Umar, who also disclosed that the NGO has executed eleven laudable projects so far since the beginning of this year, assured that they would do more before the year runs out.
