The Katsina State Police Command has arrested five suspected herdsmen from Niger Republic, who allegedly conspired to cause mayhem at Daddara Village, Jibia local government area of Katsina State.
Parading the suspects before newsmen at the police headquarters, Katsina, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bensen Dapiya Gwana, said the herdsmen armed with dangerous weapons set their cattle and sheep into the villagers’ farmland at Daddara and destroyed cash crops.
The paraded suspects: Usman Alkali, Ibrahim Yahaya, Halilu Ummaru, Isyaka Aiki and Usman Haruna, from Madarunfa, Saran Maradi, Milla and Maisaje villages in Niger Republic were apprehended with a dane gun, six bows, six bunches of arrows, four cutlasses and camouflage sweater.
The command also paraded no fewer than 25 other suspected criminals including a syndicate of car snatchers, MTN telecommunication mast and Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) installations vandals among others.
Gwana said the police arrested one Wisdom Azubuke (25) of Obokwu Obidi, Oguta local government area, Imo State, who conspired with others now at large, to use a fabricated key and steal a car at Havana Hotel, Katsina.
According to CP, the suspect was nabbed when he wanted to move out of the hotel with the vehicle and the police investigation into the case is on-going.
He disclosed that the command also arrested two armed robbery suspects who stormed a GSM shop in Katsina metropolis with dangerous weapons and robbed the owners of two Infinix handsets valued at N74,000 after inflicted serious injurious on them.
He said the suspects had confessed to the crime while effort is on with a view to arrest other members of the gang.
