The Katsina State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, has dismissed the progress reportedly recorded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last 31 months in the state as a ruse.

Briefing journalists in Katsina yesterday, Majigiri said the Governor Aminu Bello Masari administration has failed in the state and expressed confidence that the PDP would regain the control of the state.

He asserted that the opposition party had no reason to be jittery over the likelihood that Masari can’t be stopped in 2019 governorship poll, saying the PDP has nothing to fear in the election. He said the declaration of Masari as the sole gubernatorial candidate of APC about two years to the election shows the party is not ready to continue in government come 2019.

Commenting on Masari’s policies, he said: “Due to their deceptive approach to governance, ineptitude and incompetence, they have succeeded in plunging us (Katsina State) into backwardness and stagnation.”

According to him, despite close to N400 billion received by the state government as federal allocations, loans and internal revenue, making the state one of the wealthiest in the country, the people of the state had been in pains and reduced to beggars in the midst of plenty.

“In the last 31 months, more than N117.7 billion was received from the federation account by the state government on behalf of the local governments. The rising poverty we see in the land of Katsina State (over 82 per cent (it was 67 per cent as at 2014) is caused by the present government policy on local governments,” Majigiri said.
