A group of Niger-Delta youths called Atiku Youth Organization (AYO) has said former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has what it takes to become the next President of Nigeria.
In a release signed by the group’s coordinator, Evangelist Alexander Ojiri, commending the return of the ex-vice president to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), it described the politician as a tolerant Muslim, with a true understanding of the socio-economic and political terrain of the country.
The group said Nigeria needs a leader who understands the social, economic and political landscape of Nigeria; as well as an avid supporter of the youth. It said Atiku Abubakar’s business prowess and diverse relations across the country’s geo-political zones speaks for him.
AYO averred that the youth of Niger Delta will massively support the politician should he declare an intention to contest in the 2019 elections. The group urged the PDP under the Prince Uche Secondus administration to view the politician’s return as a step in the right direction, and create an enabling environment and level playing field for electoral candidates come 2019.
“We urge members of the PDP and its new executive to work for the common purpose of the party to ensure it makes a formidable opposition; a viable alternative for Nigerians next year,” Ojiri concluded.
