Following the reforms embarked by the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service, (GSBIRS) and the passage into law of the Gombe Revenue and Tax administration bill by the Gombe state house of Assembly, his Excellency Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo has constituted an executive management team and governing board to enable the Board assume full autonomy.
The bill empowers the state revenue board to collect taxes and revenue as at when due and it will as well take care of the independent of the board.
The executive chairman of the board, Mohammed Adamu Damji, while briefing Leadership on the development on Wednesday, commended governor Dankwambo for ensuring the speedy passage of the bill into law and for immediately constituting an executive team and governing board, stressing that it will go a long way in repositioning the board towards attaining greater heights.
According to the chairman the board face several challenges ranging from poor working condition, administrative bureaucracy due to lack of total staff control and absence of a functional management team and board, which he claim affected their operations.
He then described the passage of the bill into law as a “giant stride” and one of the greatest achievements in the history of the State Assembly. He added that the action had shown that the Lawmakers were in tandem with Governor Dankwambo desire to transform the board towards improving Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) in the state tune with modern innovations.
He said: “All over the country, government is introducing new innovations in blocking leakages and in improving revenue generation.” Adding that “the passage of the bill and the constitution of the board is timely and essential to the socio-economic growth of the state.”
The newly executive board members are Mohammed Musa Mohammed, Executive Director Operation, Wesley Kusuma Audu, Executive Director Tax Audit, Mijinyawa Sani Labaran, Executive Director Non Tax Revenue, Aishatu Yakubu, Executive Director finance & Administration while Barr. Jessica David is to serve as Sec/Legal Adviser.
The board members are Mohammed Dala, Wazirin Deba he is to represent Gombe central, Alh. Abubakar Alkali, Kaigaman Dukku, to represent Gombe North and Nathan Jamiel is to represent Gombe South.
Others are representatives of relevant MDAs, from the ministry of finance, ministry of economic planning, ministry of lands and survey and the ministry of trade, industry and investment. Mohammed Adamu Damji is to remain as executive chairman of GBIRS and chairman of the board.
The chairman said the appointment is with immediate effect and the Executive Governor is expected to inaugurate the board on Tuesday next week.
