Taraba Police Arrest 9 Over Burning Of Divisional Station

The Taraba State Police Command has said it has arrested nine suspects in connection with the burning of its Divisional Headquarters in Zing, near Jalingo on Monday.

The state commissioner of Police, Mr David Akinremi, disclosed this at a media briefing in Jalingo, yesterday.

He explained that  the policemen attached to Zing Division responded to a call from Monkin village on Monday that unknown gunmen killed a person.

He added  that the team on reaching there arrested three persons in connection with the killing. However, the irate youth in the area followed them demanding the release of the suspects to them for jungle justice.

According to him, the police turned down their demand and took the suspects to Zing Divisional station where the youth trailed them, burnt down the station and vandalised operational vehicles.

“The command is hereby using this medium to sound a note of warning to miscreants who take delight in attacking police stations that it will come hard on anyone involved in acts of lawlessness,” he said.

He also dismissed media reports that helicopter loaded with arms landed in Taraba, describing it as fake news.

“I want to state that the report is outright falsehood, misleading, unfounded and a deliberate attempt to cause panic in the minds of the people of the state.

“As soon as the rumour filtered in, the command dispatched teams of police operatives to Jibu, where it allegedly landed, only to discover that there was no iota of truth.

“I also personally visited the community but came to the same conclusion that it was a mere rumour,” he said.

He appealed to members of the public to always verify their information so as not to create fear in the minds of residents of the state.
