The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, said that despite the proliferation of churches in the country, there seems to be no fear of God in the people and expressed worry that some clerymen have encourage illegal migration and trafficking in persons.
He deplored increased cases of crime and other anti-social vices in the society.
Oba Ewuare II stated this when the Spiritual Leader and General Overseer of Spirit and Life Family Bible Church, Apostle (Mrs.) Deborah Gordon-Osagiede paid him a courtesy visit in his Palace in Benin, the Edo State capital.
The Oba said available reports indicate that some church leaders instead of discouraging human trafficking and illegal migration have continued to encourage the crime, pointing out that the palace would continue to align with government to eradicate the menace in the society.
He commended the Federal Government and International Organizations on migration for their efforts at exposing the illicit trade and rescue Nigerians subjected to inhuman treatment in Libya.
The Benin traditional ruler also told his guest that Oba Ewuare II Foundation has been established to meet the needs of the poor and less privileged in the society, adding that it is the desire of the palace to make the State the destination of choice for everyone by ensuring safety of lives and property.
He explained further that the Palace would collaborate with security agencies to ensure crime is as its lowest ebb in the state in order to make the state conducive for investors, thereby creating employment and development.
Earlier, Apostle (Mrs.) Gordon-Osagiede said she was in the palace to acknowledge the good works of His Royal Majesty since he ascended the throne, especially the abolition of the community development associations (CDAs), which she described as a landmark achievement.
She lauded the monarch for his peace initiatives in the kingdom, and expresses hope that during the reign of Oba Ewuare II, the Kingdom would experience progress and development.
While acknowledging the goodness of God in the life of Oba Ewuare II, the clergy wished the Monarch long life and many years on the throne of his fore fathers.
