Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has denied the report of armed robbery attack on Kaduna bound train at the Rijana along Abuja – Kaduna rail line.
The minister, who spoke at the inauguration of the board of agencies and parastatals of the Ministry of Transportation on Friday in Abuja, said
“I saw one false, or what you can call fake news, on social media about an attack on our train, which is not correct. But, you see how Nigerians on their own fabricate stories.
“On every Coach, we have armed Policemen and we heard that armed robbers attacked the rail line, it’s very impossible in the station.
It cannot happen while the rail is moving and they said it happened in Rijana community.
“What we have done in the rail is that we have provided security to make it easier for those who are travelling from Kaduna to Abuja.” Concerning the Warri-Itakpe rail line, the minister said “We have seen how far they have gone and because we told them that by June/July, we will be commissioning. I need to go there to see how far they have gone.
Speaking on the newly inaugurated board members, the minister said, “I informed them to perform their responsibilities. Like you know, the ministry will not oversee them unnecessarily, we will, but it will be more like supervisory role and we want to make sure that there is speed because, Nigerians don’t want to hear stories, they want it to deliver and also expect the board to also deliver in that line. We know there are challenges.”
Also speaking to journalists after the inauguration, chairman, Board of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Senator Seriki Ademola, while speaking about the school, said “ The situation on ground is what we have to really understand. First of all, as you would recall that there was IMC (Inter-Ministerial-Committee) the chairman of the committee, which was fully in place, I have to meet and study some of their recommendations.
I will work in cordiality with my governing council and the rector and all the major staff of MAN, then we can all think towards development because, the idea is to make a change, to make a difference on a possible note.
“The Ministry of Transportation doesn’t represent Transport, it is people with lots of good personalities, and I believe that we will work in cordiality with every member to ensure that we fast forward the Maritime to be able to compete with the International counterparts.”
