Maina Calls For Support To Science, Technology Development



The secretary, Education Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Senator Isa Maina, has called for a continuous
support from the administration, ministry of science and technology and other relevant agencies, for the development of science and
technology in the country.

In a remarks at the fourth edition of FCTA department of science and technology project exhibition yesterday, tagged, ‘FASTECH 2018’, Maina  noted that past investment in science and technology education in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is already yielding some dividends, through some inventions from various schools in the territory.

He pointed out that in 2017, Government Secondary School, Pyakasa, Government Science and Technical College, Garki and Gifted Secondary School, Gwagwalada, came second in national competitions, organised by Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists.

Earlier in a welcome address, the acting director, FCTA department of science and technology, Mrs. Ibrahim Christiana, had explained that
FASTECH affords the department the opportunity of bringing, to the fore, the robust partnership it has developed with science-based

Christiana maintained that the exhibition is an opportunity to see, in practical terms, the creativity in our scientists, fabricators and
inventors, which would impact positively in our economy. In a keynote address, the vice chancellor, University of Abuja, Professor Michael Umale Adikwu, noted that the 21st century has witnessed great advancement in science and technology on global scale.

Professor Adikwu however regretted that even though there have been uneven rates of development of science and technology around the globe, countries such as Nigeria is still at the lower rung of the ladder.
