Residents of Ushafa district in Bwari area council have appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to connect the community to the water grid.
Some of the residents, who spoke to LEADERSHIP, likened their situation to the bird that lays the golden egg and lamented that they hosts the popular Usuma Dam, which provides water to other communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), but they lack water to drink.
A resident of the community, Musa Illiya said the government has neglected their duty to provide basic necessities for the community, noting that the people have been crying and yearning for provision of water which is just beneath them.
Another resident, Sadiya said the government has deliberately refused to connect the community to the water grid, which, according to him has brought untold hardship to them in their quest to get water.
Also, Josiah Mohammed lamented that the Federal Capital Territory Water Board has played a deaf ear to the needs of the host community, adding that the community has made several efforts to have access to water, but has proved abortive over the time, due to government’s negligence.
