For raping and putting his own daughter in the family way, one Lucky Ayosin has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti.
He is also to spend ten years behind the bars for attempting to murder his son, Ilesanmi Ayosin, who caught him while having sex with his younger sister.
Justice John Adeyeye, who presided over the matter held that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable and subsequently ruled that both sentences are to run concurrently.
Ayosin was found guilty of attempted murder, which Justice Adeyeye said was contrary to Section 320 of Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012 and rape contrary to Section 358 of the same code.
The victim (name withheld) who was a SS 2 student at the time gave birth to a baby girl who was a product of an endless sexual abuse by her own father while the case was going on.
The 20-year-old son of the man, Ilesanmi, caught his father having sex with his younger sister and was shot by his father with a single-barrel gun in a bid to prevent his shameful act from becoming public knowledge.
After he narrowly escaped being killed, the boy immediately reported the incident to their mother, Yemisi Bayode, who had divorced from their father 14 years ago leaving the two children in his custody.
The incident, according to the charge sheet, occurred on or about 19th November, 2015 at Isaba-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of the state.
The convict first appeared before a Magistrate’s Court after which a legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions necessitated the transfer of the matter to the State High Court.
His was arraigned for the first time at the High Court on two-count charge of attempted murder and rape on 21st February, 2017
The prosecution called five witnesses in the course of the trial including a medical doctor who examined the girl who was raped and impregnated by her father.
Exhibits tendered include the statement of the convict, medical report and the single-barrel gun used by Ayosin to shoot his son in a bid to cover up his crime.
A counsel from the Office of the DPP, Mrs. Kemi Ajumobi, represented the state while the convict was represented by Mrs. A.T. Baderinwa from the Legal Aid Council.
