No fewer than six persons have been killed at a Southern Kaduna village by unknown gunmen.
Residents said the attack took place at a mining site in Bakin Kogi Village of Kaninkon Chiefdom in Jema’a local government area of Kaduna State.
A resident, Arama Morik, said the gunmen, who wore military and Mobile Police uniforms, had first killed three persons at the mining site and also killed another three persons who were cutting wood at the Bakin Kogi bush.
The administrator of the Jema’a local government area, Alh Yusuf Usman, who confirmed the incident, however said the three persons lost their lives during a shootout by illegal miners.
Usman said during the scuffle, four other persons sustained injuries and were being treated at the Kafanchan General hospital.
He said security personnel have been deployed to the area to contain the situation, adding that people should go about their normal businesses and report any suspected persons to the appropriate authority.
