The Gombe state commissioner for finance and economic development, Alh. Hassan Muhammadu has been honored by Northern Youth Assembly of Nigeria for his outstanding leadership qualities and positive impact to individuals and communities.
Presenting the award to him in Gombe, on Thursday the speaker of the assembly Hon. Ukkasha Hamza Rahama, said the assembly is a voluntary organization born out of the need to redeem the region from the clutches of poverty and educational backwardness that has held the region back in recent times, through advocacy and rendering financial assistance to the less privileged.
He said the award being presented to the honourable commissioner is to honour and celebrate a leader who understand the value of his professional responsibility, and whose work and contribution has created positive change to the society.
“We are here today to fraternize and appreciate a man of uncommon achievements and impeccable character. A man who has continued in unassuming disposition of our leaders past, who put the people first in all their actions and policies of governance, and we value his leadership.” He said.
“You have given meaning to the aspirations of many of our youth through your quiet manner in carrying out your duties, without even trying to get claim credits for yourself, you have been a great team player and peerless contributor in all the capacities you have served.” The speaker added.
Hon. Hassan before being appointed as commissioner of finance in Gombe state, he has serves the government of Nigeria, including other nations with distinction as technical advisor to the minister of finance, special advisor to the minister of FCT, Director general presidential task force on custom reforms, project manager for DFID, support for Nigeria debt management. In addition to serving as the institutional advisor for the government of Kenya and Sudan.
While executing his various assignments he was instrumental in Establishing a Roadmap for the reform and modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, which was endorsed by a Special Mission of the International Monetary Fund on Customs Reform in April 2009.
Hassan’s commitment and professional inputs as the project manager of DFID in 2004 to 2008, led to Nigeria’s exit from the Paris Club of Creditors, the attainment of the historic debt relief of USD 18 billion, and the restructuring of the country’s London Club debt spread between the Per Bonds, Oil Warrants.
Receiving the award the financial guru said “I feel honored and motivated, this award will surely motivate me into doing more and giving out all my best in the discharge of my God given responsibilities.”
