Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, yesterday through the State Zakkat and Endowment commissioner donated 1,000 bags of grains to both widows and the needy across the state.
Speaking before distributing the grains to beneficiaries, chairman of the Commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, said the donation was Tambuwal’s personal contribution towards alleviating the plight of widows and the needy.
According to Maidoki, widows had earlier appealed for support to enable them feed their orphans.
Disclosing the rationale for sharing the grains, Maidoki said, each of the beneficiaries would get one bag of grain plus a thousand naira with which they will transport the gift to their respective destinations.
Maidoki said, “The state governor donates 1,000 bags of grains which include 250 bags of rice, millet, maize and guinea corn for distribution to both widows and the needy across Sokoto State.
“This is to ease the sufferings of the less privileged in the society and to fight poverty and hunger in the state.
“The gesture to provide grains and other daily needs for both widows and the needy in the state remained a continues one, as the governor remained very committed to every effort geared towards improving the living standard of his people.”
