The Senate yesterday confirmed the nomination of Anthony Okechukwu Ojukwu as substantive Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The Red Chamber also approved the appointment of Professor James Momoh as chairman of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
President Muhammadu Buhari had nominated the duo for confirmation in varied appointments but the Senate refused to grant the appointments following the standing impasse between the legislature and executive arms of government.
It was however, learnt that the Senate made a u-turn following harmonisation which was brokered by the national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who had met with Senators in the National Assembly recently.
While the confirmation of Ojukwu was based on screening and recommendation by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, presented by committee Deputy Chairman, Senator Babajide Omoworare, that of Momoh was recommended by Senate Committee on Power and presented by the chairman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
