Vice President, Parents’ Teachers’ Association of Awesome Kids Academy, Gwarimpa, Mrs. Habeeba Ahmad-Rufai, has called on parents to revrain from ceding the care of their children to teachers alone, but to play their part in their upbringing.
Ahmad-Rufai, who was speaking recently, during the school’s inter-house sport festival, lamented that many parents, due to their busy schedule and avid chase of money, abandoned their children in the hands of their teachers.
She therefore called on parents to ensure that, in their various homes, they teach their children good morals and the right value system, so that they would grow up to be good citizens of the nation.
“The role of parents is as important as that of the teachers, because if the school is doing everything and the parents aren’t contributing, there is a problem. The children go to school and mix with different people and, whether we like it or not, parents have to play their role. There is value system and culture and we have different background. School is where everybody meets and does all sort of things together. We have where we come from and our values as members of families. So, if parents don’t contribute their part, one or two things might go wrong.”
Ahmad-Rufai stated that it would help a great deal in building up the children, both physically and mentally, while imbibing in the children the spirit of sportsmanship and resilience, no matter the challenges that may come their way.
