All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the leadership of the party in the South West, yesterday met with aspirants contesting for the party’s sole gubernatorial ticket in the July 14 governorship election.

The meeting, LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered was part of effort by the APC to forge a united front ahead of the election and also to assure the aspirants of their commitment and readiness to collaborate with the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, in organising a free, fair and transparent governorship primary election in the state.

The meeting, held at the old State House, Marina, Lagos had in attendance Asiwaju Tinubu; former Interim National chairman of the party, chief Bisi Akande; National Vice-Chairman, South-West, chief Pius Akinyelure; former governors of Ogun and Ekiti States, chief Segun Osoba and Otunba Niyi Adebayo respectively.

Others in attendance include: Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa and Ekiti State chairman of the party, chief Jide Awe.

The zonal leadership of the APC, while addressing 28 gubernatorial aspirants in attendance at the meeting, pleaded with the NWC to send credible people from Abuja to conduct the primaries fixed for May 5.

Speaking after the meeting, Asiwaju Tinubu said the meeting was called to assure all the aspirants that South-West leadership of the party would be non-partisan andwon’t aligned with any of them in the forthcoming primary election.

He said, “What I admire about them is that we called them and they answered our call. They all asked for a free, fair and transparent process and that is what we are committed to doing.

“The leadership is determined to respect that wish. There would be no interference, no collusion with any of them. But we told them they must all maintain the peace. And once we all recognise our roles and play the roles, we will all move forward.”
