GSL Open Serves Off In Abuja As Neuchrist Clinches Dayak Title

No fewer than four Nigerians are guaranteed places in the main draw of the Gladiators Systems Limited Open Nigeria F3 Futures which serves off Monday in Abuja.

This follows the draw in the final qualifying round which had three all-Nigeria ties with John Otu battling Clifford Enosoregbe and Babalola confronts Christian Paul, Nigeria’s highest ranked player by the ATP. The other match that will have two Nigerians sizing themselves up is the match between Joseph Imeh and Michael Michael. Emmanuel Idoko and Emmanuel Audu can also join if he defeat his foreign opponent.

The winner of the ties will join at least one other Nigerian who is already guaranteed a place in the main draw courtesy of wild card.

The GSL Open, which is in its second edition, represents a big chance for Nigerians to make a telling impact on the three-leg ITF Pro Circuit tournament following the unimpressive performances of the local players at the Tombim Open F1 Futures and Dayak Championship F2 Futures which preceded the GSL Open bankrolled by Bayo Okusanya.
Meanwhile, Austrian Maximilian Neuchrist, Saturday clinched the Dayak Championship title by beating Joao Menezes of Brazil 6-3,6-7(6),6-2.

The fourth-seeded European was resolute in his approach against his South American opponent, who had accounted for the exit of two seeded players prominent of which was the top seed Youssef Hossam of Egypt.
Menezes was on a 9-0 win-loss run in the Nigerian capital but could not match the tenacity of Neuchrist who won the rubber encounter.
