A member representing Langtang North and South Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Beni Lar has called for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture in Gangnim, Sabongida, Langtang South local government council of Plateau state to boost research in the country.
According to her it has been highly recommended that due to the unique vegetation and climate condition in Langtang South which is conducive to grow crops useful for medicinal purposes and also for consumption that a Federal University of Agriculture be established in Sabongida to further research in Agriculture and Plant Technology.
Lar pointed out that the area is endowed with natural and agricultural resources, adding that it is against this background that University of Jos and the National Agency for Biotechnology established a center in Gangnim, Sabongida in Langtang South of the state 10 years ago.
She pointed out that the proposed Federal University of Agriculture if established in the area will boost the economy by enhancing the local production and export of various agricultural products, noting that food security is essential to the existence of all citizens.
‘It will be ideal for the federal government to include this Federal University of Agriculture, Sabongida in Langtang South of Plateau state as one of the 15 Federal Universities of Agriculture being proposed for establishment by the federal government,” she stated.
