Osun 2018: Over 4,000 Youths Protest In Iwo, Agitate For Guber Tickets

As the preparation to the 2018 governorship election in Osun state gathers momentum, over 4,000 youths from Iwo federal constituency comprising of Iwo, Ayedire and Ola-Oluwa Local Government Areas of the state yesterday staged a protest, warning all political parties taking part in the forthcoming election to pick Iwo son as their respective party standard bearers.

The youths who converged in their thousands represented their respective association, club, artisan and trader unions unanimously vowed to boycott the election if none of Iwoland candidates is presented for the gubernatorial poll.

Speaking at Iwo City Hall, the youths advised parties, mostly the prominent ones to pick their flag bearers from Iwoland should they want to have a free ride to victory.

Chanting various slogans like, “Iwoland agenda is sacrosanct,” “It is our right, give it to us” among others, the youths declare that they were no longer ready to play second fiddle anymore.

In his remark, the chairman of the concerned youths, Alhaji Nurudeen Emiloju, described the constituency as the most neglected in Osun State despite her political strength, adding that Iwo has been instrumental to the emergence of successive governments in Osun State.

Condemning past marginalization, Emiloju reiterated the readiness of the good people of Iwoland to have a taste of the number citizen of the state.

He disclosed Iwo is prepared with every resource at her disposal for the task ahead, saying neither negotiation nor persuasion will convince the sons and daughters of Iwo, even as he equally applauded existing political parties in Iwo for coming up with capable candidates.

Emiloju said, “Iwo is regarded as the bastion of progressive governance in South-Western Nigeria by many political analysts. Despite her status, it has never tasted the prominent political post since. This is condemnable, injustice of first class order and seems to be a deliberate attempt and outward demonstration of loathe. We are here to question the past, address the present for our political expectation.

“We will mobilize all resources at our reach to ascend the governorship seat from any available political platform that present any of our son as its standard bearer. Neither persuasion nor lesser compensation will do. Just give us governor, we are good to go.”
