In a bid to fill up the gap in skill acquisition and capacity building in the make-up sector of Nollywood, Chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lagos State chapter, Don Pedro Aganbi has urged youths with requisite makeup skills to get involved as enough opportunities abound in the sector.
Speaking at the 2nd bi-annual graduation and awards ceremony of an NGO, Youth New Club in collaboration with BAA Foundation, he urged the five hundred graduating youths of the event to put to practice everything they have learnt over the course of the six months training and strive to be their own bosses from the make-up department, tailoring department, fashion, photography and others, emphasizing that the make-up artists trainees should take the initiatives and add value to the movie industry.
“The movie industry is witnessing some rebranding and the make-up department has enough room for youths who have the potential to make an impact in areas like special effects, creativity, nude and bridal make-up sceneries. Makeup drives the movie market. Be the controller of that drive and don’t wait for the government,” he added.
The President of Youth New Club, Osho Itiayo Abraham advised youth not to hid under the guise of no jobs in the society and be the one to create the job. “A lot of youths hide under the disguise of no job to engage themselves in frauds, prostitution and armed robbery.
Without any doubt if we make it a responsibility to make them skillful, it is possible for us to rescue a lot of them from the bad ways,” he said. The event was held in Lagos under the theme ‘Empowering the Youths through Skills Acquisition Empowerment Programme’.
