Defeat Of Boko Haram Coming Much Sooner – Osinbajo

The vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has said that the 2018 Army Day celebration holding in Borno State is an evidence that the Boko Haram terrorists have been substantially defeated and their total defeat is coming much sooner than anticipated.
Osinbajo added that the reclaiming of the dreaded Sambisa Forest, which was formerly a symbolic territory of the terrorists, and other enclaves of the insurgents by the Nigerian military, also depicts the victory of the Army, in the war against insurgency, in the northeast.
The VP stated this yesterday, during the Mini Trade Fair and innovation exhibition organised by the Nigerian Army in conjunction with the Borno State Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (BOCCIMA) as part of activities marking the 2018 Army Day Celebration in Monguno, the headquarters of Monguno local government area of Borno State.
He commended Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai for building a professionally responsive Army that can stand the test of time in the defense of internal and external crisis. He added that the ability of the Nigerian Army to bring the crisis in Kaduna, Benue, Taraba and Zamfara, under control, is also worthy of commendation.
He noted that the effort of the Nigerian Army in the war against insurgency in Borno and other states of the northeast affected by the crisis has yielded the much needed peace in the region, and those who knew Borno in the last 10 years, can attest to the emerging peace, in the region.
“For the past 10 years , the Boko Haram terrorists has done everything to annihilate the Northeast region, but the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari ensured that the Boko Haram’s ambition is not achieved through the gallantry effort of the Nigerian Militry which reclaimed all the local government areas earlier occupied by the terrorists.
“We are here today to celebrate the gallantry efforts of our troops. We are also celebrating the resilience of the people of Borno and northeast who despite the atrocities committed by the boko haram in their communities, are beginning to return to their homes to start normal lives. We are also here to celebrate tens of thousands of those who lost their lives in the boko haram war, which is a dead insurgency.
“Special commendation must go to my brother and friend, Governor Kashim Shettima, for spending time and resources in a bid to ensuring that the people of Borno are given hope, even during and after the crisis,” Osinbajo said.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the 2018 Army Day Celebration Exhibition Committee, and chief of training and innovation, Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Chigozie Ude, said the trade fair and innovation exhibition is not just a show, but an opportunity to showcase the economic potential of Borno State.
