Published

One person lost his life in a communal clash in Kufai community in Biliri local government area of Gombe State.
Mr Shina Olukolu, commissioner of police in the state, confirmed this to Journalists yesterday in Gombe.

He said the incident, which occurred on Thursday night, was between the people of Shongom and Biliri.
In reaction, women of the two communities, came out in their hundreds yesterday, to protest the perennial communal clash between the Tangale speaking people of Biliri, Shongom and Kaltungo LGAs.

Our correspondent reports that the women, who were dressed in black attires, painted their faces and barricaded the Gombe- Yola highway, leaving commuters traveling along the road, stranded for several hours.

An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP Weekend that not fewer than 500 vehicles were trapped along the highway since they could not move out nor come into Biliri.

A resident of the community, who begged for anonymity, said schools in the area were closed down and business activities collapsed as people rush to their homes in fear of possible violence.

Our correspondent reports that the people of these communities have been involved in series of communal clashes over the years as a result of farmlands.
