Reps Commiserate With Katsina Community Over Deadly Rainstorm, Flood

The House of Representatives has resolved to send a delegation to commiserate with the people of Jibia local government area of Katsina State, over last Tuesday’s deadly rainstorm and flood. The unfortunate incident claimed 58 lives while 20 persons are yet to be accounted for. The House also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently provide relief materials to the affected communities. The member representing Kaita/Jibia federal constituency of Katsina State, Hon Salisu Salisco, in a motion of urgent national importance, expressed regrets that 58 persons reportedly lost their lives, and 20 are still missing after the incident. According to Salisco, “many houses were destroyed and more than 500 people have lost their homes and are using the primary schools as temporary shelter, while many have been hospitalised.” He, however, commended the urgent intervention of the Katsina State governor, as well as the federal government delegation, led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, for the on-the-spot assessment visit to the affected area.
