A gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, Jamil Isyaku Gwamna on Saturday mourned the death of an elder statesman and former civilian governor of Gombe state, Alh. Abubakar Habu Hashidu.
Hashidu was the first elected governor of Gombe state, between 1999 and 2003. In a statement signed and in issued in Gombe by his media coordinator Ibrahim Sani Shawai, the aspirant described the late Hashidu  as a vibrant politician and patriotic Nigerian who served the state and nation meritoriously.
“His contributions to Nigeria and Gombe as a politician cuts across regimes as he meritoriously served as minister of Water Resources, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida and as the first elected governor created a roadmap for others to build upon. He was also a member of the Vision 2010 committee set up by General Sani Abacha to chart a developmental road-map for the country.”
He further expressed sadness over the former minister’s demise and prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. He also urged the family to remain steadfast and emulate his lifestyle.
“Our hearts bleed as we grief for the loss of our National emblem of peace, patron to the core at all levels of social demands. He saw the interests of his people as the reason for existence and pursue the course of developing his fatherland by serving the State and Nation with the kind of hearts that only melts for the yearnings of the people whom he has been mandated to serve.”
