Niger PDP Youths Reject Guber Zoning

Published

A  Youths Group under the auspices of Concerned Youths Forum and some key elders of PDP in Niger State have  rejected the zoning of governorship seat  to Zone C Senatorial District. The State PDP Chairman, Taboo Beji had announced the zoning ahead of the 2019 poll.

But the leader and chairman of the group, Dr Mohammed Bello disclosed at the weekend in Minna, that the statement credited to the  Party Chairman,  was his personal opinion  not that of the party even as he said the group was opposed to it.

According  to him, sticking to zoning  and disallowing  other people the right to contest was  “undemocratic, unconstitutional and not acceptable by the youths in the three geo political zones of the state and should be rejected by party members in the state”.

Bello alleged that the Chairman (Beji) was trying to  clear the road for his  preferred  aspirant, the former deputy governor and serving ambassador to South Africa, Hon. Ahmed Musa Ibeto saying , “It is Beji’s antics to further convince Ahmed Musa Ibeto who dumped the party to join APC in 2015 to come and contest for the governorship come 2019” .

The PDP stalwart advised members of the party to reject the suggestion by Tanko Beji while considering the statement as a personal opinion that does not reflect the opinions of the party stakeholders in the state and should be reversed.

He alleged further  that it was a  a pre-planned  arrangement deliberately done to allow an unpopular candidate  emerge and  if not checked could ease the chances of the ruling APC to return to power in 2019.

It would be recalled that last week, the chairman  of PDP in the state   disclosed  that the party had  resolved in an expanded caucus meeting that thee governorship seat had been zoned to Niger North senatorial district (Zone C) for 2019 guber election.
