The founder of a Lagos-based nongovernmental organisation (NGO), Ayodele Oghogho Othihiwa Foundation, Sir Oghogho Othihiwa, along with his wife, Lady Sally has been conferred with a global peace ambassador award by Global Peace Foundation International.
Conferring the award on the couple at the weekend, the leader of the delegation, Amb Ozuem Esiri, explained that the awardees deserved the award for promoting peace in Nigerian communities, especially in Delta State.
Esiri explained further that a committee set up to examine the performances of organisations, that are committed to peace-building and community service, have found the Othihiwas, worthy of the award.
Responding, Sir Oghogho Othihiwa, stressed the need for Nigerians to always promote peace within their communities, as it is the only way to progress and development.
Othihiwa, who is also an economist, stated that the recognition and award would make him do more to ensure peace in Nigerian communities, adding “If you see the experience of Rwanda and Liberia, you will know the value of peace.
Peace cannot be over exaggerated. I am grateful to Global Peace Foundation for this recognition. This will encourage us to do more in promoting peace.”
LEADERSHIP gathered that Global Peace Foundation International is an international non-sectarian organisation that promotes an innovative value-based approach to peace-building.
