The Borno State commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu, has assured Mobile Police personnel on special duty in Borno State of quick payment of their special allowances in addition to the provision of other basic needs required in their operation.
Chukwu also used the opportunity to advise the Mopols to always follow appropriate channel to express their grievances whenever the need for such arises instead of embarking on protest which is unpopular in the police or any other force.
The Borno Police boss stated this while addressing all the Police Mobile personnel on special duty in the state yesterday at the headquarters of the Borno State police command in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
He said the police have settled two months of their outstanding allowances before this month, will do everything possible to ensure that their remaining five months outstanding special duty allowances are cleared as soon as possible.
“The essence of this gathering is to assure you that all the money being owed you will soon be paid in addition to the two months allowance already paid. We are doing everything possible to ensure that your welfare is settled.”
“I am equally using this opportunity to advise that protest is not part of police force. Once you are enlisted in the force, you are not expected to embark on protest for any reason, but to responsibly channel your grievances through the appropriate channel. Your allowances are not with the Inspector General of Police, it will rather come from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
“You will recall that on the 2nd of July this year, something happened at this command. That thing that happened is beginning to crop up again. We have intercepted text messages of some of your colleagues about a planned protests in Borno, Yobe, Nasarawa, Benue among others over your outstanding allowances. I want to assure you that plans have been perfected to clear the outstanding,” Chukwu said.
