The Coalition of United Political Parties’ (CUPP) Contact and Mobilisation Committee led by Rev Olusegun Peters has been sworn in by the chairman, Central Steering Committee, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinola yesterday in Abuja, even as Rev Peters promised that the committee would deliver on its mandate. He also expressed optimism that the CUPP will emerge victorious in the 2019 polls.

In a statement in Abuja yesterday, Rev. Olusegun Peters thanked the Central Steering Committee for the privilege given them to “serve our great alliance for progress, development and advancement of Nigeria’s democracy and pledge to justify the confidence reposed in us.”

He said the Committee would hit the ground running as time is of the essence and that they shall meet and draw up a plan of action for effective contact and mobilisation of Nigerians at home and abroad including the past and present public office holders, political leaders, the elite, opinion leaders, women and youth groups, civil society organisations, professional bodies, and associations, to be part of the Nigeria project. “APC members who wish to decamp and join the Coalition should feel free to contact our Committee. It is all about Nigeria and the survival of our democracy”, he added.

The Committee which has Barr.(Mrs) Chike Ibeneme as deputy chairman and Barr. Kenneth Udeze as secretary respectively promised to traverse all nooks and crannies of the country and reach out to the people spreading the good news of “our great grand alliance to restore genuine democracy and provide good governance to our longsuffering compatriots.”

He noted that Nigerians are united in their desire to change the current APC-led government that has brought untold hardship to the citizenry- economic stagnation, political upheavals, social dislocation, religious conflicts and deaths in just three years of being in power. “Today, Nigerians are more divided and poorer than they were four years ago. Thousands of our fellow citizens are now refugees in their own country labeled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Our coalition is therefore a breath of fresh air in our political process and national life”, he said.

“Members of the Contact and Mobilization Committee will be focused and dedicate ourselves in reaching out to the good people of Nigeria and promote the peace , unity, harmony, stability, freedom, greatness and prosperity of the nation which the populace enjoyed in the past government but lacking in this regime”, he added.

The committee said that it shall work hard and diligently to bring fellow compatriots into our fold. “Together, we shall change the purported change that was foisted on the nation in 2015 and direct the ship of the Nigeria state to the path of rectitude and progress. By God’s grace we shall succeed in this onerous task that will restore our hard won democracy from the cabal that held the nation hostage”, it said.

It said with the support of Nigerians who are desirous of a democratic change in government, “our great coalition will be victorious in the 2019 general elections.”
