Police Deploy 9,500 Personnel For Hitch-free Celebration In Borno

Following the directive from the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for massive deployment of personnel across the states of federation, the Borno State Police command has deployed about 9,500 of its personnel comprising 6000 conventional police and mobile personnel to the nooks and crannies of the state including prayer grounds for a hitch free sallah celebration.

The command also said that there will be restriction of vehicular movement within the capital city of Maiduguri between 6am till after eid prayer in the afternoon, even as it assured residents that everything has been put in place to ensure that the Sallah Celebration is peaceful.

The Borno State commissioner of police, Damian Chukwu, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday shortly after “the show of force” patrol, jointly held by the police and other security agencies in the state,  which saw them patrol around the roads within the Metropolis, which he said is to enable residents know that the security agencies are eqaul to the task of protecting life and property within the period.

Chukwu said, “The command has deployed over 6,000 conventional police and over 3,500 police mobile force who will help in ensuring a hitch free Sallah celebration.

“The ‘show of force’ embarked by the police and other security agencies within Maiduguri Metropolitan is to create awareness to the people that we are equal to the task of hitch free sallah celebration.

“The 8 area commands in the state have been directed to position our men at every prayer ground in the state as well as policing strategy areas, and this is to ensure that the Eid-el-Kabir celebration comes and leaves successfully,” he added.

The Borno State Police boss further said that all have been put in place to ensure that people go about without molestation, this is even as he urged faithful to go to any prayer ground very close to their homes for the Eid prayer.
