2019: DPC Writes INEC On Conduct Of Congresses, Primaries

The Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notifying the electoral umpire on the dates for the holding of its congresses and primaries nationwide.

In the letter dated 20th August  2018, and addressed to the chairman of INEC and signed by the national chairman, Rev. Olusegun Peters and national secretary, Alhaji Lawal Mohammed, respectively, the DPC announced the dates for the holding of its congresses and primaries ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The party said that the notification is in compliance with the relevant sections of the Electoral Act, 2010 as amended and therefore gave INEC the notice of its intention to hold its primaries, congresses and national convention for the purpose of nomination of candidates of the party for election into the State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, governorship and presidential elections coming up in 2019, and to elect its executive officers at all levels from ward to national level.

According to the letter, the dates and venues of the primaries and congresses are as follows: Ward Congresses 13th September, 2018, at the ward headquarters nationwide;     local government congresses, state houses of assembly primaries, 15th September, 2018 at the local government headquarters of the party;    House of Representatives primaries, 19th September, 2018, at federal constituency headquarters nationwide;    Senatorial primaries  22nd September, 2018 at the senatorial district headquarters nationwide;  State congresses and governorship primaries  28th September, 2018 at DPC state headquarters nationwide;   National convention and presidential primary 6th October, 2018 at DRACC, AMAC/ACO Housing Estate, Sabon Lugbe along Airport Road Abuja.

The party assured INEC that its officials in all the states will be in contact with appropriate offices of INEC at their levels of operation in the states and said that it is looking forward to the cooperation of the electoral body in the exercise.
