Eid-el-Kabir: Gov Al-Makura, Speaker, Others Salute Muslims, Call For prayers



As the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations continues, governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, has urged Muslims to continue to uphold and promote the core values of Islam for the sustenance of peace, unity and progress of the country.

Similarly,  the Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi and the Emir of Lafia, Dr Isa Mustapha Agwai I, have also stressed the need for prayers for peace and unity by Nigerians. 

Al-Makura, in a statement signed by Yakubu Lamai, director General Strategic Communication and Press Affairs said, “For us in Nasarawa State, we have a long standing tradition of peoples of different tribes and religions living in peace and harmony, based on the common values of human compassion, tolerance, mutual understanding and solidarity.”

The governor, implores every parent, teacher and religious leader to pass the message, of “Political affiliation, ethnic and religious diversity that need not escalate into hate speech, violence or conflicts because Nigeria is a country of unity in diversity; and our dear Nasarawa State holds a pride of place as a land of courtesy and warm welcome to all people from every part of this great nation.

  “We should never fall short of our reputation as an inclusive society, where all religions continue to live in peace and harmony with each other and welcome with open arms all people who are displaced from places far or near,” the statement said.

The Speaker in a statement signed by his press secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, quotes the Speaker as saying that fervent prayers by Muslims and other Nigerians would not only ensure rancour free elections in 2019 but would also promote peace and unity in the country.

“There is the need for all to guard against hate speeches, let do the right thing and intensify prayers for a hitch free general elections and for the emergence of leaders that will deliver for the people,” he said.

The Emir, while receiving his subjects during the traditional Sallah homage, called on religion, political and traditional leaders to preach for peace and unity among their people as 2019 general elections draw nearer.
