The race for who will emerge presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday took a fresh dimension as governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo and former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido have picked the presidential nomination forms.

While Lamido picked his forms through a representative at the Wadata, national secretariat, Dankambo, picked his forms at the annex office of the party in Abuja.
The director general of the Dankwambo Campaign Organisation, Dr Shija Terhambe, however confirmed to LEADERSHIP that he picked the form on behalf of the Dankwambo, while the governor held a meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC).
He said the governor will make a proper statement on his plans when he returns to submit the form.
So far, the PDP has over 11 presidential aspirants jostling for its presidential ticket. Besides, Lamido and Dankwambo, other aspirants are former governor of Kano State, Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso, Ibrahim Shekarau, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Sen Ahmed Makarfi.
Others are Senate President, Sen Bukola Saraki, Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Sen Datti Baba Ahmed, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang.
Meanwhile, a group under the aegis of Abia Concerned Citizens (ACC) have obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, to seek a second term in office.
The group said it was motivated to purchase the forms for the governor to encourage him to continue his good works beyond 2019.
Leader of the group, Ambassador Bestman Eruba who was flanked by Kingsely Wosu-Ezi, said they are impressed with the stewardship of governor Ikpeazu since he mounted the saddle in 2015, adding that another four years would help take his development strides across the state.
“We are at the headquarters of the PDP to purchase the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for governor Ikpeazu who in our estimation has done excellently well. We are here to encourage him to continue the good works he started more than three years ago.
“The PDP is a reformed party and we have no doubt that it would provide a level playing ground for all aspirants to vie for the various offices,” Eruba stated.
On whether the group had the consent of the governor to purchase the forms, Eruba explained that ACC as a group wants the best for Abians, stressing that the group is optimistic of Ikpeazu’s readiness to oblige its request to continue in office.
He further noted that “Ikpeazu has delivered on his electioneering campaign promises and as such would not hesitate to persuade him to seek re-electio. Hopefully, he will not only clinch the ticket but also wins the election because the electorates in the State are well informed about the projects, policies and programmes of the governor.”
