Poor Representation Responsible For Insecurity, Says APC

An Aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Abia State, Mr. ThankGod Ntaku, last weekend at Umukalu Asa in Ukwa West local government area of the state, identified poor representation of the people by Nigerian lawmakers as largely responsible for the state of insecurity in the country.

Speaking during his declaration of his interest to represent the Ukwa Federal Constituency at the National Assembly in the forthcoming elections, Mr. Ntaku, who is a Communications Expert based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, stated that it was the responsibility of law makers at all levels to explain the policy directions of government to their constituents in such a manner that would build faith in the Nigerian project.

He decried situations whereby lawmakers, for selfish reasons, deliberately misinform the people or abandon them to whatever interpretations they give to the actions and programmes of government, adding that these had the potency of breeding insecurity in the land as people naturally would react to issues based on the information available to them.

Mr. Ntaku assured his people that he would organise town hall meetings on a quarterly basis to brief them and consult with them on the goings-on in government, stressing that it was wrong for law makers to assume that they know everything about the people they represent.

According to him, “No one man knows it all and therefore it is important to feel the pulse of the people by giving them opportunity, through physical interactions to talk about their challenges”.

He commended the APC for making internal democracy one of the fundamental principles of the party, while noting that it was lack of internal democracy in the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) that nearly sent the party to an early grave.

He contended that real dividends of democracy could only be felt the moment leadership of political parties began to allow their members free hands to choose candidates to run for elective offices, adding that such a practice, apart from having the potency of endearing parties to the electorate would also bring about good governance.

While commending the APC for always deemphasizing money politics, Mr. Ntaku appealed to party faithfuls to take their destiny in their own hands by rallying round competent, honest and integrous aspirants irrespective of whether the person was a money bag or not.

Earlier in his speech, the APC Chairman of Ukwa West LGA, Mr. Allwell Enwereji said the APC was a veritable platform for men and women in Nigeria to express their political desires and aspirations freely, adding that it accounted for the reason why many prominent Abians were embracing the party.

He stated that the APC in Abia South was ready to ensure that the party won in all the elections come 2019. The event which witnessed a large turnout of people attracted prominent sons and daughters of Ukwa West LGA.
