Barely one month after a bank robbery operation that led to the death of ten persons in Igarra, Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Henry Ashofor, and one of his aides, have been reportedly kidnapped.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that the incident happened at about 5pm near Aiyetoro, along the Igarra Ibillo dilapidated road, after the chairman and other top politicians from the area attended a burial ceremony at the local government headquarters.

“We were together at the party with several other political leaders and he left us to go back to Ibillo. We were shocked when we heard that he was kidnapped. They were taken at gun point and led into the bush,” a party chieftain said.

At the time of sending this report, the police had not made an official statement to this effect.

But security personnel attached to the chief of staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Taiwo Akerele, who immediately mobilised to the area, arrested a suspect believed to be an informant to the kidnappers and is currently has been handed over to the police.
