Two persons, Kayode Aliyu of No 40, Adeta Area, Ilorin and Jamiu Kareem, have appeared before an Ilorin Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

The accused were brought before the court on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft.

Prior to the arrest of the accused, one Lateef Saliman of No 13, Oloru Compound, Sakele Area, Ilorin had reported at commissioner of police’s Surveillance Office attached to Area Command, Ilorin that sometime in July 2018, his Bajaj motorcycle, registration number DE 210 YH, was stolen where it was parked in the middle of the night.

The victim stated that he strongly suspected the accused as the persons that trespassed into his house and took away the said motorcycle.

He stated further that on August 17, 2018 while he was searching for his motorcycle, along Adeta Area, Ilorin, he saw Aliyu (first accused) who told him that he wanted to sell one Bajaj motorcycle to him (victim) and that the owner was one Abdullahi Oju-Owu (at large).

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), during investigation, a Bajaj motorcyle, registration number LAR 266 QJ was recovered from the accused, while the complainant’s stolen motorcycle light was recovered from Jamiu (second accused) who confessed that one Abdullahi Oju-owo (at large) sold the light to him.

The FIR added that all efforts made by the police to get Abdullahi Oju-owo arrested proved futile.

The FIR added further that the accused were some of the bad-eggs who used to steal motorcycles in Ilorin and its environs, while the two accused confessed in their statement that it was Abdullahi Oju- owo that sold the light to them.

The prosecutor, Inspector Isaac Yakubu, who informed the court that investigation into the case was still ongoing, objected bail of the accused and urged the court to remand them in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

The Magistrate, Mr JB Sahliu, refused the plea of the prosecutor, as he granted bail to the accused at the sum of N300, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

The court adjourned the case till September 12, 2018 for hearing.
