The Secretary to the Kogi State government, Dr Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade, yesterday visited victims of flood in Kotonkarfe, Kogi local government area to donate food and other items to cushion their challenges.
Mrs Ayoade who was accompanied to the flooded communities by many top government functionaries said her gesture was to show the victims that they are not in the challenges alone.
She said, “I have decided to donate my widow’s might to the victims of this devastating flood. Many of them have no homes anymore and many more have no hope of what to eat.
“The State Government has been doing its best but we need the presence of Federal Agencies and International Organizations to address the menace of flood in the State. We also want to encourage individuals to be their brother’s keepers in this trying period. This is what I have come to show here today.”
The SSG urged those in flood prone areas to move to camps provided by government agencies to avert casualties, saying government is prepared to cater for the needs of the affected communities and people.
“The Ministry of Environment and SEMA are working with their Federal counterparts to ensure we do not lose lives and property to this unfortunate menace. Life is the most important here and I want to say our government will do everything possible to save the lives of our people”, she added.
