Katsina APC Group Tackle s Masari Over Primaries

The contention between the loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari’s in-law, Abubakar Samaila Isa, and Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari’s bloc in the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over took a deeper dimension at the weekend as the APC Akida has decided to challenge in court the indirect primaries reportedly endorsed by the Katsina APC.

Addressing newsmen on their position, the Katsina Central zonal coordinator of the APC Akida and aspirant for House Representatives in 2019 general elections, Alhaji Bello Abdul Rimi, said neither the state executive nor the alleged stakeholders of the party in the state has any mandate to adopt indirect primaries for the party’s aspirants as the legitimacy of the executive committee is still a subject of legal tussle.

He revealed that following the alleged conduct of ward congress of the party in the state, the aggrieved APC faithful instituted a court action against the exercise, adding that the national APC leadership should appoint a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in the state as no group loyal to either Masari, who is seeking reelection or Isa, who is also a governorship aspirant could single handedly organise primaries for Katsina APC.

“Our position is that there is no delegate in Katsina that can conduct indirect primaries or to be able to do this fairly and freely. We urge the national headquarters of the APC to send a care taker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in Katsina State so that these people that are conducting the affairs of APC with impunity would be stopped from doing so,” said Rimi.
