The last might not have been heard about crises rocking Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as one of the candidates in last week’s election, Honourable Chinedu Okoye is reportedly threatening legal action over results of the polls in Katsina.
After emerging without a single vote in the election, which gave Melvin Amaju Pinnick an unprecedented second term as NFF president, fotballlive.ng report that Honourable Okoye has alleged there was vote buying at the polls and wants the police to investigate.
Okoye’s outburst comes amidst allegations that each delegate was paid an initial deposit of N3m, while a balance of N4.5m after victory was assured, and only two new candidates were voted successfully into the executive committee.
Pinnick was re-elected with 34 votes by the 44-man congress in Katsina, ahead of former NFF president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari and ex-general-secretary, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi.
However, while Maigari immediately congratulated Pinnick over his victory and Ogunjobi had remained non-committal ever since, Okoye is raising umbrage over the results.
The owner of Nigerian National League (NNL) outfit, Bimo Sporting Club said: “Someone broke the bank and there was bribery in the NFF elections. No one voted for me despite all the assurances and the anger against Pinnick.
“I am still gathering my facts before I approach the appeals committee. I also want the Nigeria police to investigate what happened in Katsina.”
