NGO Awards Scholarships To Orphans, Widows

A nongovernmental organisation, Christian Care for Widows, Widowers the Orphans and Aged, has awarded no fewer than 444 scholarships to orphans and widows.

The scholarship programme is for students in primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions.

The chairman, CCWA, Prof. Deborah Ajakaiye, disclosed these At a briefing in Abuja ahead of the organisation’s conference this week.

Prof Ajakaiye said the NGO also introduced skill acquisitions centers at different filed to train widows, widower, the orphans aged in 11 states.

She said the NGO is also planning to establish more to training centres to empower them to stand on their own, and be of use in the society.

Prof. Ajakaiye said the scholarships were to assist children of widows and widowers as well as those who cannot afford education.

Ajakaiye said the aged, widows and widowers remained the most neglected people in the society.

She said: “The aim of the organisation is to assist widows, widowers, orphans and the aged in our society.

“So far, we have awarded scholarships to 444 orphans in primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions under our founder’s scholarships.” She also said the organisation had trained over 1,500 widows in various skills acquisition.

Prof Ajakaiye added that about 350 micro-loans to registered members of the nongovernmental organization to implement new business ideas and expand existing once.
