The candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Kogi Central senatorial district, Barr Natasha Hadiza Akpoti has moved to stop the proposed sale of Ajaokuta steel company by the federal government to implement the 2018 deficit-based budget.
Natasha who has been on the front leading the crusade for the revitalisation of the moribund company lamented that the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has taken a wrong step to have advised the Federal government to sell the national asset to implement the 2018 deficit-based budget, asking what would be sold to finance subsequent budgets if Nigeria has resolved to selling national assets to fund budget.
She chided the CBN boss for what she described as ill-thought advise when it comes to national issue.
“I know of the role you played alongside Oscar Onyema the CEO Nigeria Stock Exchange, Jim Ovia of Zenith bank etc in the 2016 purported sale of Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) which was stopped by a movement of patriotic Nigerians”, she said.
According to her, the buyer was known all along, adding that in this case, it is the buyer who funds the speeches of the CBN boss.
She quickly pointed out that, in case the CBN boss is not aware, the National Assembly in March this year put a stop on the sale of Ajaokuta Steel Company.
While maintaining that Ajaokuta will not be used to fund 2019 elections, she pointed out that the federal government will only do so at its own peril.
She however explained that her move is not a threat but a warning from a patriotic Nigerian on behalf of other Nigerians who Ajaokuta is capable of creating thousands of jobs for and change their condition of living.
