Etebo Joins Super Eagles’ Injury List

Stoke City Oghenekaro Etebo has joined two other Super Eagles players doubtful for next month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South African.  The 22-year-old Nigerian midfielder was yesterday ruled out of the Potters in the EFL Championship clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane after he suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty. The former Warri Wolves star has joined Galatasaray forward Henry Onyekuru and Bursaspor defender Abdullahi Shehu on the injury list and doubt for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Cape Town. Shehu suffered a muscle contraption in the quadriceps on his right leg which led to his substitution after 18 minutes against Libya in Uyo while Onyekuru faces at least one month on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury.

Etebo has made 11 appearances in the league for ‘The Potters’ since his summer switch from Portugal. On that day, Alessandro Del Piero and Pippo Inzaghi lined up in front of Zidane, while Edgar Davids had been added to the midfield. Despite boasting a squad that read like a Who’s Who of ‘90s superstars, Juve – after losing to Manchester United in the 1999 semi-finals too – had to settle for just the one European title in that decade.  Since then, the Italians have made it to three more finals, losing all of them. Can Cristiano help end the curse?
