Osimhen Must Pick His Chances – Lawal

Former Super Eagles utility player, Garba ‘Chindo’ Lawal has urged Sporting Charleroi of Belgium attacker, Victor Osimhen to grab any chance that comes his way and cement his place in the national team.

The former U-17 World Cup winning captain has been recalled to the 23-man Nigeria squad for next month’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa and a friendly against Uganda three days later.

Osimhen returns for the first time since June 2017, when he was involved in a friendly against Togo, and his recall follows a rich vein of form for the Belgian side.

Speaking on a radio sports programme yesterday, Lawal noted Osimhen will even have to do more than other invited players, since the youngster wants to take over spots that are already occupied, stressing that only extra hard work will make his way.

“I am happy that Victor Osimhen has been invited to the Super Eagles, he is young, he is good, he is ambitious.

“He is doing well now with his club, but the national team is different. He will have to work extra hard to justify his call up.

“At the same time, it is not every coach that is ready to give you time to settle down, so Victor has to take any chance that comes his way.

“He must take every chance, he must use every opportunity to make his mark and he must continue to work very hard.”
