The management of EL-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri said it had terminated the contract of the chief coach of the club, Imama Amapakabo.
Mr Abdullahi Yusuf, one of the board members, announced that Imama was sacked by unanimous resolution of the board on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
He said Imama failed to meet the expectations of move the club to the next level.
He noted that Imama’s position as an assistant coach to the national team was a huge task, which prevented him from concentrating on El-Kanemi FC.
Yusuf said: “There is growing public outcry that the coach hardly stays in Maiduguri as a result of his engagement with the national team.
“Imama is one of the best coaches in Nigeria, however, the decision was necessary and in the best interest of the club.”
Yusuf expressed the board’s appreciation for Imama’s contribution to the club and wish him best in future endeavors.
