The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has received no fewer than 5,000 defectors from opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Uruan local government area of the state.
The defectors were received at Uruan council secretariat by the coordinator of Divine Mandate Campaign Organisation in Uruan, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh.
Ntukudeh, while receiving them said it is a thing of joy that they have come to join PDP based on their own personal convictions.
He commended the defectors and expressed optimism that with what the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, is doing in Uruan, ‘’the few persons remaining in the opposition political parties will join the PDP before the 2019 general elections’’.
He urged them to ensure that they go back to their various wards, get registered with the party to have access to the PDP membership card, even as he appealed to them to keep their voter’s card intact as it is their only voting power.
He also told them that in Uruan, the task is to return Governor Udom Emmanuel to office come 2019.
Enumerating the various human and capital development efforts of Governor Emmanuel in the area, he urged them not to relent in sensitizing and garnering support for the governor’s emergence in 2019.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel has done so much for Uruan. With all these developments he has brought to Uruan, and the numerous appointments he has splashed on Uruan indigenes, we must strive to rank first in returning the highest number of votes come 2019. We must support him. We must support the party” he said.
Ntukudeh who is also the board chairman of Akwa Ibom State Roads and Other Infrastructure Maintenance Agency (AKROIMA), asserted that Governor Emmanuel should be supported to complete his eight years tenure.
“We supported Obong Victor Attah from Uyo Senatorial District and Obong Godswill Akpabio from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District for eight years. We must also support Mr Udom Emmanuel from Eket Senatorial District to complete his eight years tenure so as to be on the path of justice, fairness and equity.
“Let me also remind you that the reelection of Governor Emmanuel will pave the way for the quick ascension of Uyo Senatorial District to the Hilltop Mansion, which could be an indigene of Uruan, come 2023. So let’s support what is just”, he said.
